The Scrubbing Part 1

First thing this morning Gera came to me and asked if she could “have some fun” and scrub the kitchen floor. I told her “sure”. Well, that’s all it took to get me and Shanna motivated. Since we were going to be moving most of the kitchen furniture to the living room I had Shanna shampoo the kitchen area rug and hang it in the sun over our front porch rails. With the kitchen chairs now in the living room I could reach the ceiling fan to clean it and while I was at it I vacuumed the ceiling. (It’s the only was I know to get the cobwebs off a blown in ceiling.) I pulled out all the appliances and the hutch in the kitchen for Gera to “have fun” behind. I did the stove and frig myself. (The scrubbing, that is.) Shanna and I decided to straighten up some more of the project materials that are “hidden” on our front porch. She moved the shelving to her craft place in hopes that her dad will be well enough soon to hang them. She moved the air conditioner to the far end with the other one so we can cover them up. They won’t get stored this year because she and I can’t carry them down our 6 feet of front steps and around our house to the building. And Gerald is not supposed to lift things that are heavy. They’re behind the swing and no one can see them from the road so we don’t mind. Since we took down our indoor Christmas decorations yesterday Shanna was in the mood to take hers down at her craft house today. Her uncle recently got rid of two old pieces of furniture off her front porch and she’s excited about getting that front porch to looking nice. I told her to take the metal patio chairs with cushions that we’re not using. You may remember what happened to our patio table last year in Oakland, MD. Gera’s gonna do mop and glow next on the kitchen floor (it’s an old floor and needs all the help it can get. :) ) I set out the oven cleaner to do this evening when the floor is dry. And we’re leaving the shampooer out in our way as a reminder to shampoo the living room before going to bed.
I love this kind of work! The younger girls have dressed up in long dress-up dresses and are moving in and out among the crowded furniture. Gerald Jr. is down for a nap and I’m getting ready to stop and give Ryana a History lesson. She could do it herself, but she’s studying the “Of Plymouth Plantation” book written by William Bradford himself and brought back into print by Vision Forum. We’ve been doing it together and I don’t want to be left behind because it’s sooooo interesting. No other history book has these details first hand like this book does. So I’ll get right back to cleaning after a short trip to the colony of Plymouth.
Well, it’s 5:00 and the floor is finished and dried. I’ve just got to move everything back and start on the oven. Shanna’s not back from taking down decorations and re-decorating yet. She and I had already planned an easy supper so we both could work as long as this motivation mood lasts. So we’re having tuna salad sandwiches, carrots, homemade bean dip and Fritos. I did get a little distracted from my cleaning while I waited on the kitchen floor to dry. My book order came in today so I fought temptation until I could justify sitting down. Of course I don’t feel guilty when I’m reading because I don’t like to read twaddle. I like books that challenge me in my Christian walk as a wife, mother and homeschooling mom. And these books were just that-encouraging. Well, I’m back to the kitchen
Hope you all are enjoying this new year. God bless.
