Our Sunday

Yesterday after our morning services, Dad, Shanna, Ryana, Faith and I all went to a special two o’clock service at a nearby church. Mom stayed home with Sarah and Gerald Jr. They both had been running fevers and had a lot of congestion. The nearby church was having a visiting evangelist there for the day’s services. It was the John Marshall family. The Marshalls have 10 children. Most of their children are grown and married, and only their three youngest daughters are still at home. This family has a wonderful heritage, with 2 of their children on the mission field and 5 of their children in ministries stateside. Joanna Marshall (their oldest daughter at home) wasn’t able to be with them this time, as she was in Africa, and wouldn’t be traveling back until today. We had had the privilege to meet the Marshalls a few times before at different church services. After we ate, Jessica and Monica Marshall (the youngest two daughters) and all of us Miller girls went upstairs to practice singing. Since Joanna was gone, they needed someone else to take her place, so they asked us to sing! Wow! They let us pick out two songs that we liked, and then they picked out two songs that we didn’t know, but we only had to sing the chorus and one of the verses on one of the songs, so it wasn’t hard to pick up. The two songs that they picked were “Lord, Let Us Weep Again” and “Press On”. The two we girls picked out were “Out of His Great Love” and “The Value of One”. We had a wonderful time singing with them and fellowshipping with them, and I also got part of a violin lesson to boot!

There were some other visitors there, as well. Bro. Gil Perez (Curly) and Bro. Eugene (Last name?), who are Cuban street preachers in New York, and a new friend of theirs’ were there. Their friend was a recent convert that they had had the privilege to lead to the Lord. Bro. Gil lead in the congregational singing. They are hilarious people. :) For example, Bro. Marshall mentioned a certain type of woodpecker in his message and asked if there were any of them in New York. Bro. Gil said, “Yes there are, but they’re not saved, emon!” :) Bro Marshall said they’re not saved down here either. :) It was a real blessing to visit with them and the Marshalls yesterday.
Another thing that happened yesterday was that our porch collapsed while we were at church.

Before

After

The temps were in the 30s, so we were having a melt down. Snow had been sliding off our tin roof all day, but a lot had slid on to our back porch roof, which is shingled. Mom didn’t know that snow was piling up there until the crash. The roof came straight down where my sisters stand about three times a day checking the cats’ water. Praise the Lord we were all inside or at church when it happened. The cats were safe, too.
Also, last night while I was keeping Gerald Jr. and Sarah home from church, so Mom could attend a church service (our home is behind the church) we had an unexpected visitor…a possum! He came up and started eating the cats’ food, and when I tried to scare it away, it just, ever so slowly, waddled under our now fallen roof. Oh, boy. Well, that was very disturbing to Sarah and I, because, we had heard that possums will kill cats if they want to, so Sarah kept watch on the cats while I kept watch on the clock, waiting for service time to be over. Finally, it was 10 after 8 (I had to give them time for an alter call), and I called them. No answer. NO! They must have forgotten to turn the volume up on the cell phone! I think I called them a total of 13 times trying to get a hold of them. Finally I got a hold of Mom and told her our situation. She said that the cats were probably fine, since they are not little kittens any more, and could take care of themselves. Ok. I’ll try not to worry about them. Anyway, this morning we still have all our cats, so I guess they’re fine. I don’t know about the possum yet, though. :)
Well, this post is getting kind of long, so I better be getting off.

Gera you need to knock the snow off of the porch before it get too heavy and cause the porch to fall.

Uncle Vernon,
Well, I think it's a little too late for that now. 8^)
