Happy 2008! And thank you to all who were praying for my husband last night. He was able to preach at the watch night service and was the first one called up to preach. That, too, was an answer to prayer. He had such liberty and was an encouragement to us all. Gerald Jr. was the only one in our family that fell asleep before praying in the new year. We anticipated that, so we had already changed him into pj’s around 10:30pm. The church didn’t have a piano player lined up for the meeting so Gera was asked to do all the playing. She was honored to be asked. We got to bed around 2:00am. Gerald Jr. had us all up by 8:30am. By 9:00 all the children were gathered on our bed. All wanted to know the plans for the day. Traditionally we would be taking Christmas decor down, but I think I’ll wait until Gerald is back at work and enjoy his day off. We are fixing our traditional New Year’s Day meal of Black-eyed peas and turnip greens seasoned with ham.
Shanna has begun her new year with a long walk with Gerald, Jr. Gera has begun hers with sharing some preaching video clips with us from her laptop. One was of our good friend Bro. Steve Blankenship and his 4 year old son Isaac. Ryana and Faith have begun theirs with her teaching Faith a phonics program and Sarah is standing there waiting her turn to take over. As for Gerald and I, we began with a shower each and no other real plans ‘till evening.
We will probably all go by the funeral home tonight to pay our respects to a couple I babysat for several years ago. Their 17 year old son died this past weekend. Please pray for the Barefoot family.
God bless you all and I pray you have a wonderful year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR & Praise the Lord
I'm glad to hear that Gerald was
able to preach last night. What a
way to start the year, with the
renewed assurance that God does
hear and answer prayer, and with
opened doors of opportunity to be
of service to Him made possible by
using the talents He has given to
bring honor and glory to HIm. I
have had a pretty busy day, though
some may say I've gone to the dogs.
Ha! surprise, not in a bad way. On my way to work I stopped at my
neighbors to give her some soup
and found out her dog was tangled
up and unable to get to his food.
Jewel to the rescue, I've had a lot
of experience in that field since
I used to have to untangle the
dogs at my son-in-laws place of
business where I sometimes work till we decided to chain them up
in separate places. After cleaning
a couple of hours I went to my
Mother-in-laws house for our
traditional New Years' meal of
black-eyed peas, collard greens,
hog-jowl and corn bread topped off
with chow-chow and onions plus
cake. Then I went by my sisters
to drop off some bottled water I'd
recently purchased for her at
Sams'Club along with some of my
homemade soup. She too has a dog
and since she wasn't at home and
my brother-in-law has medical
problems which makes it impossible
to take the dog out frequently I
volunteered to take her out for
a walk around the block so she
could have a visit with mother
nature and for the benefit of
helping my self also since I was in
need of some exercise due to eating too much lunch. After
that I went back to try and finish
cleaning the house I had started
hoping to get through before the owners arrived back from the beach. Hurrah I did finish
finally after three partial days
of work. After coming back home
and resting a while and calling
serveral other family members and
wishing them a happy new year I
went back to visit my neighbor
who had told me this morning to
stop by again this afternoon.
I didn't have to deal with the
dog again that time but as I
type this I'm facing a book
laying on the table with the
title "James Herriot's favorite
Dog Stories', so I'm bacically
back to the same thing my day
started with. Speaking of books
I didn't intend to write you a
chapter out of one on your blog
but it seems I've become famous
for that lately. I did the same
thing on another friends page
the other day. I guess I get
carried away. Maybe I should
close now and pick up the book
instead and start reading. God
bless you all and I'll talk to
you again someday when I've
wound down some. LAP Jewel
Jewel,
Thanks for the comment!
That's so funny...we have the same traditional new years meal! :)
Gera
Happy New Year to all of you! My in-laws do the traditional New Year's meal but usually Kevin goes over there with Elizabeth....I'd starve if I went. Glad Gerald was able to preach New Year's Eve.
Laura :)
Glad you had a happy new year!
Laura,
Happy new year to you too!
Jennifer,
Thanks!
Gera
